Does it matter if it's mind over matter?

Previous alternative and complimentary therapies have been the ones to embrace the mind and body link and its importance. Use Reiki as an example. Reiki hones in on the natural force that speeds up or quickens everything such as the vibrational frequency of the recipient and un- blocks the energy flow, allowing healing to begin at a cellular level. The energy supply then becomes endless and limitless.

Using the digestion process as an example to highlight the direct link between how the bodies act of digesting food is controlled solely by the internal processes of the body which all stem from the messages from the brain and nervous system. The process of digestion starts as soon as we place food in our mouth and then begin to chew our food. Saliva's produced and then food is then propelled down our esophagus. Our stomach senses that food has entered, and then a cocktail of hormones and digestive acids are released and work together to break down the food and get it to the small intestine

Now that the food has been processed, it needs to be absorbed by the body, so it can provide us with the energy and nutrients that we need. All nutrients are then distributed where they are used to assist in the millions of chemical processes and reactions that occur every second within our cells. We have around 50-70 TRILLION cells in our bodies, and every one of them needs a steady supply of nutrients to stay alive, reproduce and communicate with each other. Disrupt this by not getting enough nutrients you upset your own little internal natural ecosystem and the processes of digestion and absorption require energy, vitamins and minerals to take place. By eating nutrient poor foods you are actually using up your reserves of nutrients without replacing them.

Getting back on track with the mind body link after reading the above so you really think we can afford to neglect our mental health and state and expect to stay healthy. And turning that around just focusing on the mental, spiritual and emotional side won't keep your health optimal either.

Does seperation have a PLACE or NO?

Come over here ladies and gentleman and see how smelling this toxic substance affects you. Just be careful you may get a sudden burst of dizziness, headache and even get nauseous. This was similar to some instructions handed out to a group of undergraduates studying psychology and the Connecticut University. They unknowingly took part in a study on how they would respond to negative suggestions. The results were crystal clear as everyone sniffing the supposed toxic smell which was a puff of fresh air reported reactions. What’s more the females that were also shown a vision of an actor having an adverse reaction at the time of inhaling the puff of air experienced more symptoms than those that didn’t.

This study is just one of many in the growing body of evidence bringing to our attention the role negative thoughts can have on our health. The reaction being studied in this instance was in relation to what they call Mass Psychogenic Illness (MPI) and this is what researchers believe triggers such happenings like mass fainting and the like.

We are all aware of the placebo effect as you have been hearing about these for years. But there sounds like there is a new kid on the block and based on the results of the study in Connecticut amongst many others it is becoming more apparent. Its name is Nocebo rather than Placebo. The Nocebo effect occurs when someone’s health deteriorates if they think they are or have been exposed to any harmful or dangerous situation.

Now you are clear on nocebo and placebo you can get a greater appreciation what sort of conundrum the medical world may be facing when more scientific proof of this comes out. On the one hand a medical patient must be informed of the possible side effects of a drug or treatment but will this information trigger the nocebo effect. It may very well be a case of damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

So taking all of this information on board, should we be separating the mind and the body in terms of health or do they go hand in hand. Again the growing number of reports and studies are telling us more and more that they are linked. Links to emotional change and physical changes such as blood pressure and heart rates plus even instances of blood clotting factors in times of grief and despair. This mind body health linkage we are talking about becomes even more relevant when you take into consideration the increasing rates of diagnosed depression in our communities today.
